Blog, Twitter and Facebook - Which one is the best?

Just would like to share my experience with these three most popular social media websites. All of these sites are designed for communication and getting your message across to as many people as possible, but it can also be used as a powerful marketing tool and to drive traffic to your website.

Which one is the best?

BLOG:

Blog is not per se a social media site, but you can make it as one. You can communicate on your blog with your followers by replying to people's comments for example. Or by making polls, offering giveaways and creating contests. Blog, in my experience, requires a lot of dedication and consistency on the part of the poster to be successful. You will also need to advertise your blog to get your followers. To get followers is not easy. People need to be really interested in your content. Blog is excellent for sharing your art, ideas etc.... Your blog will help your followers to better know you as a person and artist and this, in turn, may lead to more sales. I do recommend to try blogging.

Bottom line:
- time consuming
- consistent posts are the key
- hard to get followers
- best way to tell people who you are

TWITTER:

This is the most popular social site of the moment. Twitter is a lot of fun! And it only requires 140 characters of text. It can also be very addictive. You can list your items on twitter and instantly get many views. The key is to mix your listings with interesting articles and news. Again, twitter requires actual interaction between users to be successful, so it also takes time.

Bottom line:
- time consuming
- communication is the key
- VERY easy to get followers
- could be great selling venue
- can be addictive :-)

FACEBOOK:

This is a TRUE social media site. Seems like everyone I know is on Facebook right now :-) And there is a good reason why. FB is an ever-expendable followers base. There is no limit on how far you can get. By adding friends, you will get even more friends and the process is forever. Two things you can have on facebook: personal page and fan page or business page. TIP: to get fans, you'll need first to get friends and then invite them to become your fans. Another way is to advertise your fan page. Why do you need to have both? MAIN difference: you can send updates to all your fans at once. Unfortunately, to be successful, facebook also takes time.

Bottom line:
- time consuming
- communication is the key
- easy to get friends and fans
- could be great selling venue
- can be addictive :-)

So, which one is the best? It's up to you :-) My recommendation is to have and use all of these sites as they all can be very useful and powerful marketing tools.

Comments

  1. I use all of these and other venues to network. A little bit of each keeps it manageable. Facebook groups are also a good way to find people of like interest, and invite them to be your friend and/or fan. Found your blog from a post on Twitter, go figure? :)

  3. Interesting post...Although I am on Twitter and I have attempted a Facebook page I think blogging works best for me. Blogging is a great way to get back links to your website and Google loves the links. I blog often and I notice that if I happen to take a break from it my sales start to decline. Then once I start blogging again the sales almost always increase. Just my thoughts...I think you have to use whatever tools work best for you.

  4. I love blogging! I blog almost every day. I love reading other blogs. I combine blogging with Twitter. I tweet several times a day and I love it. I cannot spend more time with making a Facebook fanpage and manage it. So I skip this part! Maybe some time!
